It brings me joy, it brings me hope. Forbidden desires within these walls. Born into a religion, One of its own kind. One disfavored by a certain tyrant. To be born outside of Europe, outside of this atrocious inferno Growing up like other children, a life filled with jubilance. Here our pending death resides; Joy has lost its meaning and is forever gone; Separations of family and friends destroy our lives. Here blood stains the Stars of David, Our lives here at Terezin, Useless and worthless. Today we children see a spirit brightener, A color as vivid as the sun Lighting up a place as dark as night. Golden fluttering wings, illuminating murky inner thoughts. It kisses my heart, a kiss to bid farewell A somewhat familiar one, Reminding me of the time I was snatched from my mother. Fingers pulled apart, hands separated forever. Knowing my time here is done, I am hauled away to Auschwitz. Forever saying goodbye to the color of my life.
