The word “phase” is disgustingly misused
We tell the lesbian girl she’s going through a “phase”
When really,
Her mom was better at love
Than her dad, and she knew
She wanted to spend the rest of my life with someone
Just like her
We say the young man’s grief from his mother’s death is a “phase”
When his internal thoughts continuously turn to the knife in his kitchen
Just to be held in her arms again
Each “phase” weakening his will
Yet, we continue to pollute his ears with “phase”
We celebrate that the middle aged women is over her “phase”
Because we see her laughing
Little do we know it’s all for the protection of her daughter’s purity
And we never see the tissue boxes that are piled on her bedside
Nodding is not agreement
Smiling is not the equivalent to happiness
You are not the definition to the reasons besides your own
Because, so what does it matter if choices change when the truth is definitive?
This is now, “phase” or not.
